Amateur radio also happens beyond the shack.

Activations, expeditions, portable contests and amateur-radio gatherings that form part of my radio story. Original photographs are preserved without cropping or retouching.

EA7HOH · /P · FIELD OPERATION

Activations and expeditions.

A great deal of amateur radio happens away from the fixed station: setting up a temporary station, taking antennas and equipment outdoors, spending the day with other operators and putting locations with special references on the air.

This selection brings together some of the activations I took part in between 2010 and 2025. Names and dates come from my photo archive; when an image contains an activity reference, it is preserved exactly as it appears in the original photograph.

CONTEST · HF · PORTABLE

2023

Spanish Municipalities Contest.

In August 2023 I operated portable in the Concurso Municipios Españoles (CME), one of URE’s HF contests. The 2023 edition took place over the weekend of 12–13 August.

IBERRADIO · ÁVILA

The Amateur Radio Fair

IberRadio is a meeting point for radio amateurs and people interested in CB, communications, electronics and hands-on experimentation. Held at the Lienzo Norte Exhibition and Congress Centre in Ávila, the event brings together exhibitors, talks, workshops, new equipment and a second-hand market.

My first visit was in 2019 and, since then, IberRadio has left many memories in my personal archive. Dates and editions are contextualised using information published by URE and IberRadio; the photographs are from my personal collection.

2019

5TH AMATEUR RADIO FAIR · MY FIRST IBERRADIO

The start of a tradition that stayed with me.

My first visit to IberRadio was on 14 September 2019, during the 5th Amateur Radio Fair at the Lienzo Norte Exhibition and Congress Centre in Ávila. Among the equipment I was able to see up close were the magnetic loop antennas made by the Italian company Ciro Mazzoni Radiocomunicazioni.

In these two photographs I am standing beside the BABY LOOP, designed for HF from 40 to 10 metres, and the MIDI LOOP, designed to cover 80 to 20 metres.

2021

6TH AMATEUR RADIO FAIR

Meeting again in Ávila.

The 2021 edition was held in Ávila on 18 September. These photographs capture the journey and a weekend of radio, friendship and shared experiences.

2022

7TH AMATEUR RADIO FAIR

An edition for sharing the hobby.

IberRadio held its seventh edition in 2022. My archive preserves several moments from the journey, the fair and the meetings with fellow operators over the weekend of 16–18 September.

2024

9TH AMATEUR RADIO FAIR

IberRadio beside the walls of Ávila.

The ninth edition was held at Lienzo Norte on 21 September 2024. Two memories from that day with fellow radio amateurs, including the presence of the Asociación de Radioaficionados de Sanlúcar (ARSB).

ARCHIVO PERSONAL

A radio story that keeps growing.

Activations, contests, fairs, gatherings and portable operating are all part of the same hobby. This section will continue to grow with new memories while keeping the original photographs unaltered. Some of the results and operating challenges connected with these activities are also shown in the awards and recognition section.
